Every Carbon Hinge product is designed, prototyped and tested in-house in Sydney. We're continually developing new profiles, materials and integration methods to take all-composite articulation into applications that metal hardware can't reach.
A look at what's on the bench right now. If one of these fits your application, get in touch. Early partners help shape the final specification.
In healthcare environments, traditional pin hinges are notorious for harbouring organic matter, bacteria, and dirt. Because they are nearly impossible to clean thoroughly, they frequently become focal points for healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
The Carbon Hinge Sanitation Range solves this industry-wide challenge by replacing exposed moving parts with a smooth, completely sealed, ultra low profile hinge that allows for rigorous clinical disinfection protocols.
The 2.5mm thick hinge is made in white glass and is completely post coated inflexible elastomer, normally it will be supplied with one side uncoated for bonding applications but can be attached with fasteners if required. This hinge is highly customisable in size, load capacity and color.
A load-bearing stop hinge with an integrated return that holds the hinged component at a set angle, 90 degrees as standard. The stop angle is set during manufacture, so it can be tailored to your application.
In a standard flexure hinge, the weight of the hinged panel sits on the flex unit itself. This hinge transfers that load off the Kevlar flex unit and onto a customisable structural stop, so the flex unit only does the job of flexing. The result is a hinge that can carry heavier panels while the flex unit stays almost invisible.
Zero metal, lightweight and corrosion resistant, as standard across the Carbon Hinge range. Its use cases range through access panels and inspection hatches, enclosure lids, fold-out panels on vehicle equipment, marine hatches and other applications.
A control surface hinge designed specifically for integrating the control surfaces of uncrewed vehicles into the hull or airframe, from the ailerons of fixed wing UAVs to the rudders and fins of USVs and UUVs. Each hinge is custom made to fit the customer's specified profiles, so it sits cleanly within the wing, tail or hull section.
The Kevlar flex unit is aligned through the centre of the hinge, allowing the control surface to deflect in both directions from neutral. With no pins or moving parts, there is no play or wear in the hinge line, giving consistent control surface movement over the life of the aircraft.
Like the rest of the Carbon Hinge range, it is zero metal, lightweight and corrosion resistant. Hinges are available in lengths up to 600 mm, and can be butt joined on the part for longer control surfaces.
A self opening or self closing hinge with an integrated torsion spring actuator, originally designed for the deployment of solar arrays. At just 5 mm thick, it is extremely low profile and super light, making it well suited to deployable structures where every gram and millimetre counts.
The torsion spring drives the hinge to its open or closed position without the need for motors or external actuation, giving a simple and reliable way to deploy or stow a panel. The hinge is supplied in a range of lengths and spring loads, so it can be matched to the size and weight of the component being moved.
Like the rest of the Carbon Hinge range, it is lightweight and corrosion resistant. Its use cases range through solar array deployment, deployable antennas and panels, self closing access hatches and other applications where a passive, spring driven movement is needed.
Many of our products started as a customer problem. If an off-the-shelf profile doesn't fit, we can work with your engineering team to develop a hinge around your requirements, from custom dimensions to co-cured integration in your own layup.
